Image via Wikipedia Massive space plane: A team of space innovators have joined forces to build the largest aircraft in history as a way to blast crew and cargo into space. - chicagotribune.com : "The group aims to manufacture a massive aircraft -- about twice the size of a 747 with a wingspan of 385 feet -- that would carry a missile-like capsule into the atmosphere. Once high enough, the plane would drop the missile, which then would blast itself into orbit with whatever cargo or crew it would be carrying." With its unveiling, the Stratolaunch spacecraft becomes the latest competitor in the fledgling commercial space business that has emerged in the dusk of the shuttle era. After the final shuttle flight this summer, NASA set on a course to use commercial carriers to ferry crew and cargo to the International Space Station so the agency can concentrate on building a new spacecraft that one day could carry astronauts back to the moon or to nearby asteroids. .. .ero ....

"Using state-of-the-art algorithms developed at the Laboratory for Web Algorithmics of the Università degli Studi di Milano, we were able to approximate the number of hops between all pairs of individuals on Facebook. We found that six degrees actually overstates the number of links between typical pairs of users: While 99.6% of all pairs of users are connected by paths with 5 degrees (6 hops), 92% are connected by only four degrees (5 hops). Image via Wikipedia 2011 11 09.Russia:Mars probe stuck in Earth's orbit. - YouTube : Mars craft stuck in Earth orbit ( UKPA ) –  57 minutes ago    A Russian spacecraft on its way to Mars with 12 tons of toxic fuel is stuck circling the wrong planet - ours - and it could come crashing back to Earth in a couple weeks if engineers cannot coax it back on track. Space experts are hopeful that the space probe 's silent engines can be fired to send it off to Mars, but if not, it will plummet to Earth. Most US space debris experts think the fuel on board would explode harmlessly in the upper atmosphere and never reach the ground. The Federal Space Agency said the probe's orbit and its power sources could allow it to circle the Earth for about two weeks.
